Teeth Whitening

If you have dull or discolored teeth, you can actually have a non-medical procedure done called teeth bleaching that can be done at a local dentist. It will literally change the color of the enamel on your teeth, and as a byproduct, remove surface stains. There are many kits that you can purchase at a local store, but they are not going to be as successful as that you can receive from a general dentist in your area.

There are three basic types of procedures which teeth bleaching dentists use. One of them, veneer application, is appropriate for those whose teeth are more naturally yellow than they would like. This process involves the bonding of extremely thin, very naturalistic ceramic porcelain shells to the front of the teeth, giving them a permanently lighter appearance. This procedure is very expensive and can take several sessions to complete.

Some teeth bleaching dentists use laser whitening, during which they will apply a continuing of peroxide solution to the patient’s, and expose it to laser light pulses to heighten the bleaching action of the peroxide. Laser whitening is the choice of teeth bleaching dentists who want to give their patients bright new smiles in a single one-hour session.

The final smile brightening treatment offered by teeth bleaching dentists is power bleaching, in which a custom mold filled with a concentrated peroxide gel or solution is fitted to the patient’s teeth for a specified period in the dentist’s office. Power bleaching usually requires one or two office sessions, after which the patient will continue the process at home for a few weeks.
